Ulmus Collection
Elms (Ulmus) have been a part of the Sale Botanic Gardens since its inception, or shortly thereafter.

The site has deep soils and has a secure water supply. Common pests and diseases that impact the genus tend to not be prevalent in the Gardens and proactive measures are in place to monitor and maintain the significant trees.

Of the 20 known species of the Ulmus genus, eight are within the collection at the Gardens.

The Ulmus collection retains the historical link to the original plantings of the Gardens.

The expanse of the site, before the development of recreation facilities, can be seen with plantings of Elms north along Guthridge Parade that once formed an avenue along the front of the Gardens.
